What are the prospects for young people finding jobs?
Unemployment has now hit 2.5 million, leaving almost 1 in 5 young people between the ages of 16 and 24 without a job. There is also the prospect of further job losses (circa 410,000) from the public sector adding to the mix. Forecasts anticipate the number of jobs in the private sector to increase by up to 1.5 million in coming years, though a general lack of business confidence means that the number of job vacancies may not increase as anticipated, so prospects remain uncertain at best.
